Ps Shayne continues the message of what is God's normal? There is a dilemma going on in the Body of Christ today. A dilemma of what to believe. What is God's normal? In every area of life there is a distinct choice to make in what we believe. What you believe is what influences your life. We believe and conform to God’s standard or we believe and conform to what the world says. Experiences, circumstances, friends, family, all have an effect on our lives.

God’s Normal

“By grace thru faith.”

Ephesians is addressed to a group of believers who are rich beyond measure in Jesus Christ, yet living as beggars, and only because they are ignorant of their wealth.  Paul begins by describing the contents of the Christians heavenly bank account : adoption, acceptance, redemption, forgiveness, wisdom, inheritance, the seal of the Holy Spirit, life, grace, citizenship – in short, every spiritual blessing.

Eph 2 : 1_6 NKJV             And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2  in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3  among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. 4  But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5  even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6  and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

Eph 2 : 1_6 MSG              “It wasn’t so long ago that you were mired in that old stagnant life of sin. You let the world, which doesn’t know the first thing about living, tell you how to live. You filled your lungs with polluted unbelief, and then exhaled disobedience. We all did it, all of us doing what we felt like doing, when we felt like doing it, all of us in the same boat. It’s a wonder God didn’t lose his temper and do away with the whole lot of us. Instead, immense in mercy and with an incredible love, he embraced us. He took our sin-dead lives and made us alive in Christ. He did all this on his own, with no help from us! Then he picked us up and set us down in highest heaven in company with Jesus, our Messiah.

  1. V1    And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,             Your spirit was made alive toWe were dead, not physically but spiritually to God.
  1. V2    in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,”         We all lived this way before we were bornThis world goes on a course, from one tragedy to another.  It’s a never ending cycle for those not in a relationship with Him.  The prince of the power of the air, satan, he leads, he’s the one working in those who are lost.  MSG“You let the world, which doesn’t know the first thing about living, tell you how to live.”
  1. V3    among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.”       We were all led around by the desires and lust of theMSG“We all did it, all of us doing what we felt like doing, all of us in the same boat.”

Romans 6 : 11_18            “Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12  Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13  And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14  For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.  15  What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! 16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17  But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 18  And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.”

It comes down to who we are submitting ourselves to?

  1. V4    “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,”      BUTAlways changes the direction of a thought.   This is what you were like, but you’re not like that anymore because BUT GOD.    BUT GOD – forgives – rich in mercy – commends His love – gave the increase – raised Him from the dead.

Over 1000 times in the Word.  Who is rich (immense) in mercy.  Because of His great love.

MERCY :-  that which causes a person to overlook injuries, to treat an offender better than he deserves, forbear punishment.

LOVE :-  Agape love.  Unchanging, unfailing, unaffected love.  Because of this love grace and mercy came.

  1. V5             “even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),”    This grace has been available for any man who will receive, even while they were dead inBy grace we are saved.”  This grace of God.  ‘God, overwhelmed, by loves desire to treat me as if sin never existed.”   We have got to get an understanding of the depth of this love of God has for us.  It has to be understood by revelation in the depth of our being.  This truth has got to get down inside us, past the unbelief, past the disillusionment,  past the insecurities and take root down in our inner most being.  Out of that understanding of love comes our confidence and security in God.  Grace to live, mercy to continue, faith to receive.

V 6            “and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,”

Because of this grace we have been raised up TOGETHER, not separate from Christ but together with Him.    Eph 1 : 20      “which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,”

NLTBecause we are united with Him.

MSGSet us down in the highest heaven in company                     with Jesus.

GNBTo rule with Him in the heavenly world.

Why would God do this for us?  So we can have a whole new perspective on life.  Things looked vastly different from a high position than they do from a low position.  We are lifted up.  Why do some think they have to suffer the same things as Jesus did?  He suffered thru them so we didn’t have to.

He became sin so we could be free.

He became sick so we could be healed.

He became rejected so we could become accepted.

He became poor so we could be rich.

He became isolated so we could be in a family.

There was this grace filled, mercy filled, love filled exchange that lifted us out of the miry clay into heavenly realms.

V 7   “That in the ages to come He might show us the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness towards us in Christ Jesus.”

We are in those ages to come right now. He might show (to us) the exceeding; HYPERBALLO – to throw over or beyond anything, to surpass, to excel; riches – PLOUTOS – abundance of external possessions, fullness, when one is enriched.

God is not against us having things, He is against things having us.  This is toward us in Christ Jesus.  We are not a people looking for things outside of Jesus.  All our longing and desires are to be in Him.
