Abiding.

John 15 : 1_8             “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

  1. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
  1. V1             I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.    I AM – He was, is and will alwaysThere is no changing in Jesus.  Heb 13 : 8 – Same yesterday -----.

Jesus is the I AM.  That’s why we can have faith in Him.

Am what?  The true vine.    Jesus told us, “He is the way, the truth and the life.” Everything we need.  If you stay connected to anything else than Jesus it will not produce the kind of desires we all have.  True love, joy, relationships, health, wisdom, wealth, peace.

He is the vine, not tree.  Trees are rooted in one spot and become limited in their growth.  Vines continue to grow and spread it’s influence, it’s a spreading plant.  Jesus is continuing to spread His influence around the world and as branches stay connected to Him lives are being constantly changed for the better.

My Father is the vinedresser.  A vinedresser is one who continually has the vine and the branches on His mind.  Continuously watching over and tending the vine and branches.  Doing whatever is necessary to keep the branches producing.  The whole purpose is for us to be producing fruit.

  1. V2             Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit    The branches of the vine are many, some on one side of the house or wall, others on the other side; yet, meeting in the root, are all part of one

He takes away.   TAKES AWAY – LIFTED UP 1ST.

Matt 7 tells us, by their fruit you will know them.  Are these ones who say they are Christians but not producing the fruit of Christianity, stop bearing?

I think they would be in the minority, because when you get connected to Jesus and fall in love with Him you are continuously open for Him to touch your life.

He prunes those bearing fruit.  PRUNES :-  to cleanse, purify, carrying off what is impure, purge away sin, clear from guilt or moral defilement.

Why?  So we can bear more fruit.  The Christian life is one of growth.  He had an eye upon Christ, the root, and upheld him, and made him to flourish out of a dry ground. He has an eye upon all the branches, and prunes them, and watches over them, that nothing hurt them. Never was any husbandman so wise, so watchful, about his vineyard, as God is about his church, which therefore must prosper.

FRUIT :-  could be many things, fruit of the Spirit, how we treat others, our response to others, souls we have won to Christ, health, wealth.

What is the root to the fruit we bear?   Gen 1 : 28.    Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

God blessed them and said be fruitful.   The root of the fruit is the blessing, the only way we can produce fruit is by the blessing.  Jesus is the vine where the blessing originates, the blessing flows through the branch, you and me, and produces fruit in whatever form is needed.

There can be many things that block the blessing flow in our lives.  Unbelief, unforgiveness, disobedience, sin.  These are things that hinder and stop the blessing producing fruit in our lives.  These are the areas God wants to purge off us so we can have and enjoy life in abundance, to the full till it overflows.
